BeatMaker 1 FAQ

  • I have just purchased BeatMaker, but when i load it it quits automatically. What can I do ?
  • It seems some devices need to be rebooted before launching applications that have just been downloaded. Please try to turn off your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and turn it on again.

  • When i run BeatMaker I sometime get a "The application "BeatMaker" cannot be opened."  / I have problems synchronizing BeatMaker with my device / After updating BeatMaker, it won't load again :
  • This is a problem related to the iPhoneOS and iTunes, and you may need to download and reinstall BeatMaker. Please follow Apple guidelines at : http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
If you use the same Apple Id you purchased BeatMaker with, you will not be charged for downloading the application again.

  • When I want to reinstall/update to the latest version of BeatMaker 1.x, it looks like I have to buy it again.
  • You need to login on the iTunes App Store using the same login information you used when you first bought BeatMaker. Although it still says "Buy" in the App Store, Apple should not charge you again for the download.

  • Where can i download the BeatMaker User's Manual ?
  • You can download it here.

  • I have a problem undocumented here

    BeatPack FAQ

  • I cannot download or upload from BeatPack.
  • There are various possible issues depending on how your computer and iPhone/iPod Touch are connected to your local network. First make sure the IP address given by BeatPack is the correct one. You can find it under the Network settings of your operating system. You also need to check your firewalls settings, so that BeatPack is allowed to use port 3131 for both TCP and UDP connections.

    For MacOS X 10.5.x:

    - Go to the System settings and click on the "Security" icon
    - Go to the "Firewall" tab
    - Check the "Set access for specific services and applications"
    - Press the "+" button, and look for the "BeatPack" application, then press "Add"

    For MacOS X 10.4.x:

    - Go to the System settings and click the "Sharing" icon
    - Go to the "Firewall" tab
    - Press the "New" button
    - For "Port Name", select "Other"
    - In the "TCP" and "UDP" field, type : 3131
    - in the description field, type "BeatPack" , and press OK

    For Windows XP/Vista:

When you load BeatPack for the first time, Windows should ask you if you want the system to allow connections for this program. You should click "Yes" at this point. If you were not asked or if you previously said "No" :

    - Go to the"Control panel" and click on "Windows Firewall"
    - Add "BeatPack" application to the list of Exceptions

  • When I try to upload or download files from BeatMaker, BeatMaker gives me a "Time out" message
  • Make sure you are connected to your local WiFi network, and that your 3G or Edge connection is turned off.

If you still cannot connect, please try this simple test:

    - Launch Safari on your iPhone or iPod Touch
    - Get the IP address of the computer running BeatPack (displayed on BeatPack's main window or in BeatMaker server list)
For example, our test machine has the following IP: 192.168.1.2
    - Enter this URL : http://192.168.1.2:3131 (replace the IP address by your own!)
    - If you see a page loading without any problem, immediately try to launch BeatMaker and connect to the BeatPack server.
    - If the page timeouts, it is likely a firewall/network problem, which explains why you cannot connect to BeatPack.

    Another solution you may try:

    - On the computer running BeatPack, create a new directory and put a few WAV/BMK/... files inside.
    - In BeatPack, set the Shared directory to the newly created one.
    - Try browsing again from BeatMaker

  • BeatPack does not seem to load / I get a black screen when running BeatPack on Windows
  • As BeatPack uses OpenGL, ensure you have the latest drivers available for your video card if you encounter problems with the display of BeatPack. If you are still having problems, you can download the compatibility version of BeatPack. Please make sure BeatPack is not already running before installing this version.

  • BeatPack crashes when launching or does not seem to work with non-latin characters
  •

BeatPack 0.9 has issues dealing with some non-latin characters (such as japanese characters). In certain circumstances this can lead BeatPack to crash upon launch. If you are having this problem, please download the following BeatPack version:
    BeatPack 0.9 SR2 for Windows

  • I do not have a Wifi router, is it still possible to use BeatPack ?
